UWindsor Engineers Serve the World
As we reflect on the 100 years of history, we also celebrate the incredible contributions of our UWindsor Engineering alumni, who have shaped, and continue to shape, the world around us.
This year marks a monumental milestone for Engineering in Canada as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Iron Ring. Since its introduction in 1925, the Iron Ring has become a powerful symbol of humility, commitment, responsibility, and integrity for engineers. It is a constant reminder of all engineers' ethical obligations, and its legacy is deeply rooted in the values that continue to guide our profession.
Over the past century, thousands of graduates have proudly worn the Iron Ring, each embracing the weight of its responsibility to uphold the highest engineering practice standards. As we reflect on the 100 years of history, we also celebrate the incredible contributions of our UWindsor Engineering alumni, who have shaped, and continue to shape, the world around us. The Iron Ring’s legacy is one of extraordinary impact, and this anniversary serves as a moment to acknowledge and honour the engineers who have made a difference.
In this edition of Windsor Engineering, we are excited to share the stories of 14 exceptional UWindsor Engineering alumni as well as a profile on the Class of 1967, Dr. Frank DeMarco, and a very familiar face to many of our alumni, Dr. Nihar Biswas. Their dedication to innovation, leadership, and making a positive societal impact is truly inspiring.
The alumni highlighted in this edition represent only a fraction of the many UWindsor Engineering graduates who positively impact society. In doing the research for this edition of Windsor Engineering, it quickly became apparent that we have graduated so many amazing people from our programs over the last six decades. It was a difficult task to focus on only a few alumni. We have strived, however, to capture alumni stories from every decade since our first graduating class in 1961 so that our readers can learn about our alumni in different stages of their careers. It has truly been an honor to learn about all the accomplishments and to celebrate these successes together. I would also encourage everyone to send us your success stories and those of your classmates so we can reconnect.
One of the sayings that has stuck with me as an engineering professor is, “Engineers Serve the World.” The alumni we have focused on in this edition are truly ambassadors of this mindset. With the 100th anniversary of the Iron Ring approaching, we hope to inspire the next generation of UWindsor Engineers to serve society and create a beneficial impact that will be celebrated in the years to come.
