Our History
The story of the University of Windsor began in September of 1857, when the first students arrived to study at its predecessor, Assumption College. In the 160+ years since, the small Roman Catholic college gave rise to a comprehensive, teaching and learning university. In 1963, it affiliated with Essex College, Canterbury College, Iona College and Holy Redeemer College to incorporate as the University of Windsor, a non-denominational, autonomous, degree-granting institution.
More than 16,000 students now attend the University of Windsor, and its growing alumni family boasts more than 150,000 members.
